They are found variously in the archaeological record, and are perhaps most well known in the British Isles as being popular amongst the Celtic Peoples e.g. The Iceni (South East England). Historical testimonies from the Roman legions described Celtic warriors going boldly into battle wearing nothing but their torcs. Boudicca, queen of the Iceni, famous for her bravery against the Roman invaders (AD 62) reportedly wore a neck torc. Torcs have come to represent powerful tribal objects. Torcs come in several forms. Some are simply made from fine hollow tubing (Iceni); others are constructed from intertwined metal strands (boudicca). Neck torcs are worn loosely around the neck either with the terminals pointing towards the back or resting on the chest. The 15" length is a standard measurement to fit most people. The wrist Torc comes in two sizes Large is unisex, the small size fits most women.
